Whitechapel is undergoing rapid change and the already-busy area will become even more so in the coming years with the new hospital, the East London Line and the planned arrival of Crossrail.
To help Whitechapel adapt to accommodate the increased numbers of people moving through the area, the planned High Street 2012 initiatives aim to make significant improvements to Whitechapel market so that there is space to accommodate both pedestrians and market traders more effectively. The market proposals have been developed in consultation local traders. When the market is not in use, the area will be experienced as a more generous public space, with new lighting and seating.
Works at Whitechapel are being delivered by Alan Baxter Associates & East architects.
