Altab Ali Park Enhancements

Introduction:

A series of improvements are planned at Altab Ali Park including new tree planting, a better setting for the Shaheed Minar monument and new seating areas that will trace the foundations of the church that used to stand on the site, bringing the history of the area to the surface.

What's Been Done:

New trees were planted in February 2011 and prior to this a series of events have been held in the park to help local people see the park in a new way. This included a community walk and a community archaelogical dig organised on behalf of the High Street 2012 project partners by Muf art/architecture and the Museum of London. The dig aimed to uncover parts of the original 'White Chapel' after which the area is named and involved almost 200 local schoolchildren and residents.
