The Bow Pageant

At 5pm on 17th  September 2011 People of all ages, cultures and backgrounds will be introduced tot he fascinating history of Bow in East London in an evening of entertainment involving drama, music and audience participation.

The Pageant will introduce the community to the history that has informed their present as we meet the likes of such characters as Chaucer's Prioress, King Richard II and the rebels, politician George Lansbury and Burlington Bertie. The past comes alive so that Bow Road is not seen as merely a busy thoroughfare passing between bus and tube stops but is celebrated as a route lined with varied buildings, each with their own (often little known about) story.

Whilst Bow Church is the oldest building in the area and a prominent landmark for the local buses, this pageant is not solely a history of the church but also a secular celebration that is likely to appeal to everyone, of all faiths or none, with an interest in the creation of present-day london.

The pageant aims to appeal to all ages and backgrounds and is part of the High Street 2012 initiative, supported by a Heritage, Culture and Community Grant.
